Fortified farmhouse “Carignano Piccolo”, in Nardò.
It is situated in the most beautiful part of Salento, 2 km from Porto Selvaggio, 3 km from Santa Caterina and 3 km from the residential area of Nardò. It is at the same distance from Gallipoli and Porto Cesareo (about 10 km). It can be reached with the provincial road (Avetrana) that connects Gallipoli to the province of Taranto.
It has a total covered surface of 670 sqm, composed as follows:
- house on the ground and first floor of 405 sqm, divided into nine rooms plus lounge of 50 sqm with starry vault and 3 bathrooms;
- porch of 80 sqm;
- 2 garages of about 60 sqm;
- in the inner courtyard of the farmhouse, there is a very well preserved tower with a quadrangular basis. It has a surface of 62 sqm on the ground floor and 62 sqm on the first floor, that shows fireplaces, windows, storm drains and precious rose windows.
It was built in the second half of the XV century and it belonged to Francesco Carignano, duke of Novoli and marquess of Trepuzzi;
- it is mentioned on page 133 in the “Guida alle masserie del Salento" (guide to the farmhouses of Salento) published by Congedo with pictures on page 268;
- it was subject of the research of the Salento centre of Medieval studies – Nardò in the “rural settlements and structures in the Nardò area” ( insediamenti rurali e strutture territoriali nel Neritino), published by Salentina on page 169 with pictures on pages 10,11,12 and 13.
- it was mentioned and photographed for the Salento portal among the fortified farmhouses.
- “Salento Viaggi” named it as a monument to visit in Nardò.
The property is surrounded by dry walls and includes also a fruit grove of about 3600 sqm. There is the possibility to add another agricultural plot of about 11 hectares.
